Eye ouch!

The night before Thanksgiving was a crazy one, to say the least. The previous week my brother was walking home from a friends house after a night of hanging out. It was dark out and he had been drinking. As he walked past a man, he said "hey how are ya?" and the guy punched him in the face. He has no idea who it was or what he looked like because it was dark and the guy left quickly. His eye was swollen and so red but we figured it was just from the hit. He started getting migranes, and was sleeping a TON. So Wednesday night they decided to go to the Urgent Care to get it checked out aaand.. well.. it wasn't very good news. The blow to the eye caused the layers to break open(Or something like that... :/) I'm not very good with the technical terms, so I'll just sum it up- he had a hole in his eye and the iris was coming out. The only thing that was saving his eye was the iris plugging the hole. The doctor freaked, sent him over to the eye doctor across the hallway, and the eye doctor pretty much freaked as well. He needed emergency surgery to save his eye, but they weren't promising sight out of that eye. We took him to the U of U around 6:00pm and had to wait in the ER for ever and a day. They finally got him a surgery time of 12:20am. We were all so tired... and not to mention, ONERY! They came in and said they had to move his OR time to 2:30... Kill me now. But finally the time rolled around... and I was a nervous wreck. It was my first time being the one in the waiting room, and it was his first time having surgery. I cried. They told us the main point of this surgery was to save his eyeball period.. can you imagine how he felt going under, and how we felt in the waiting room... we weren't sure if he'd come out without his eye. :( And we still don't know if he will have very good sight. Mom and I sat waiting anxiously and ended up falling asleep. They came out, and surgery went great! They had to cut off the part of the iris that came out of the hole, so now his eye isn't round. It has a keyhole shape on the top. But! He has been going in for check ups and it's healing great... his eye looks a lot different from the other one, and he still can't see very well. Poor kid but it could have been a lot worse. :)

Can you believe a complete stranger did this just because of someone asking how they are? It's insane... It's sad that this world can't trust people to even say a word. :(

Love ya bro! :)
